Dr.Imtiaz Bhatti
I am a civil servant in Pakistan specializing in fiscal policy and governance, with academic credentials from GWU and UCL, and a former Fulbright scholar. At the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, I share my expertise through teaching economics and policy courses, while also contributing regularly to newspapers on governance reform.
The core mission of this blog is to shed light on the pivotal role of good governance and robust institutions in the development of nations. I firmly believe in the concept of creative destruction, advocating for the removal of "extractive institutions" that hinder our progress. My doctoral research at GWU, focusing on public finance, highlighted how countries that implement institutional checks to curb fiscal populism often see marked improvements in their socio-economic metrics.
Despite challenges, I remain unwaveringly optimistic about the potential for institutional reform in Pakistan. I am committed to the belief that through concerted efforts, we can root out corruption among politicians and civil servants, fostering a more equitable and prosperous society.
